Hawkstravaganza
Birthdays were for the young. Felix had only decided this recently, having arrived on the other side of fifty and feeling decidedly less than nifty about it, but he'd decided it all the same, and if that meant he was destined to let the rest of his pass him by quietly, it also made it that much more important for those he cared about to celebrate while they still could. Which was why, upon catching word (after deliberately seeking it out, granted) that nothing elaborate was in the works for Kate's big day, Felix immediately set to work remedying that oversight.
The day of, he'd been awake since before sunup, getting everything in order. He'd found a perfect little clearing, just out of the way enough to make it difficult to stumble upon before everything was ready, and then tacked up a series of arrows (yes, he thought that was clever, too) to trees leading from the compound to make it easier to find. There were streamers festooning the trees throughout the area, all in fetching shades of purple, and a few small tables laid out with cake, punch, and enough hors d'oeuvres to feed half the island. He'd wanted to decorate even more, but after reminding himself a few times that she was hardly a little girl, he'd managed to reign himself in when it came to the balloons and glitter. Besides, it wasn't as if he could vacuum later.
Of course, there was always the off chance that she'd find the whole affair kind of weird, given that she didn't technically know Felix all that well, but as he'd gone out of his way to invite everyone she knew, he didn't see how that should affect the outcome any. A party was a party, no matter the source. She'd love it!
With everything in order just in time for people to begin arriving, Felix couldn't quite shake the feeling that he'd forgotten something, though. Partgoers, decorations, food, drinks, insect repellent, trash bins...
Oh, right.
"I'll be right back!" he announced to everyone in the vicinity before hurrying off to go find Kate.
